I’ll be honest, I had no idea what a cake smash first birthday session was before this year. I heard that parents were going crazy over creating a birthday ‘set’ and letting their one-year-old smash his face into ‘baby’s first sugar.’ 

I thought it sounded crazy until my favorite family’s little guy Miles turn the big one year! When Emily mentioned it would be a joint birthday celebration for Miles and his dad, I couldn’t resist. I loved using their beautiful garden for the backdrop. Throw in a pair of Oshkosh overalls and a birthday banner, and we we’re all set! Thanks for choosing me to capture this memorable moment and for letting me witness Miles smashing his face in a cake. Something every grown person should do at some point in life.
